I decided this morning that it was best to bring Ally to the hospital for cultures/tests, an xray and to stay for at least one day. I possibly could have handled her thick yellow secretions at home since her fever went away, but I need to be sure that she doesn’t have a big BUG and doesn’t get worse quickly. The rest of the family was sooooo sick that it could get really ugly. I’m amazed that she is just catching it and that overall she is stable.
So far, the rapid tests have come back negative for flu, RSV, and strep. She is holding her own between treatments using her Trilogy bi-pap with no oxygen. We are doing treatments every four hours and are bleeding in lots of o2 to keep her sats up when the thick stuff comes up during treatments. We may need to up her treatments, but so far she is okay just with lots of suctioning and a little coughing in between. We are keeping a close eye on her to see which way she goes. If she stays stable and nothing comes back positive, hopefully this will be a super short hospital stay, but again, I know the rest of us were SUPER sick.
Things are going VERY smoothly at the hospital. We weren’t able to do a direct admission to the PICU, but only spent about 45 minutes in the ER. They had the room all ready for Ally before we arrived and we were happy to see docs familar with Ally and our favorite PICU nurse practioner Shamik. A HUGE thanks to the staff and I highly recommend other families creating a sick plan of care for their children to help the hospital with easier admissions and treatment when sick.
If you’d like to send Ally a FREE card, go to https://secure.childrensmemorial.org/ecard/default.aspx
She is in room 226 – Ally Krajewski. I read every card to her and they brighten our day!
I’ll update when I can on Ally’s site www.angelally.com .
Thanks again for all your prayers and well wishes,
Tina, Ally and family
Great job Children’s Memorial Hospital! Great to see that they are very interested in the quality of care that they give to their patients. Not all hospitals will do this kind of thing, and yet it is soooo important. Keep up the wonderful work. Ally and the other children you treat certainly benefit from your willingness to listen to their families.
